TOP/CHILD
THE VIDEO work Top/Girl is an observation on the relation between perception and being in the world. The child’s experience and perception of a top going round-and-round is internalized as a corporal experience, where the child doesn’t make a difference between the spinning object and her own material reality.While concentrating on the rotating object, the child spontaneously imitates its circular movement, eventually turning into a top herself.
A CHILD'S comprehensive experience of the world is not based only on visual perception, but also on other senses and the experience of motion. We can describe the world around us linguistically, but part of our perception and experience can't be expressed in words. In this piece of art I continue my exploration of perception through corporal relation to the existing material world.
