Paintings discuss the relationship between man and nature and the ecological balance through vulnerable living environments – glaciers and deserts. While making the Ice series, I worked a while in Greenland. My desert paintings are based on my trips to Jordan, the desert regions of Israel and Death Valley in California.
I look at the desert and the glacier especially through the eyes of a painter. The color and space experiences are the material I use when work on the canvas. Through the layering, texture and expressive color expression of the paint, I extract memories from my desert trips onto the paintings. As an artist I want to bring out the sensitivity, vulnerability, tensions of nature - the common and shareable experience of our time, which is the basis of art making.
